Gaining an army of die-hard fans and sharing the stage with artists like IDLES, Wolf Alice, and Protomartyr, CROWS comes to SV for their debut Chicago performance on October 8th! The four-piece London-based post-punk band formed in 2015 has built a considerable following for their intense shows which occasionally result in broken bones and broken instruments. Their new album ‘Silver Tongues’ was recorded in almost total darkness creating a visceral atmosphere that paves the way for new sonic avenues. Joining CROWS is CONVERT, a Milwaukee band that combines elements of electronic music, goth rock, and post-punk to create fresh and current music. Only at SV.

On the mic, billy woods is no less of a conundrum. Claiming both Washington DC and New York City as his hometowns, woods tackles hard topics with versatile flows in the rap music genre. After playing his part in Super Chron Flight Brothers, billy woods carves his own music career path with the mission statement “History Will Absolve Me.” Pitchfork calls woods' latest release 'Aethiopes' "a clear mid-career apex that shoves his always outlandish style into territories further afield than ever before." Opening for billy woods is the rap duo ShrapKnel who hails from New York City. You won’t want to miss these rappers on October 15th at SV.

Through his technical mastery and studio smarts, the power and originality of Theon’s playing has reinvented the tuba’s place in modern music. Using the instrument’s ability to produce sub-sonics, bass, mids, and tops, Theon creates complete sound worlds with his deep musical knowledge. His most recent album, Intra-I (meaning ‘Within Self’) syntheses the diversity of his musical art and experience to deliver an important message to a world gripped by tribulation. Intra-I, consisting of 10 tracks, explores themes such as self-reliance, origin, and identity. Come see Theon Cross and his celebration of Afro-Diaspora music at SV on October 20th!
[ 10.26 ] HRISHIKESH & JENNY OWEN YOUNGS
Hrishikesh Hirway is a musician and podcast creator known for his projects under the moniker The One AM Radio, and as the host for the award-winning podcast and Netflix series Song Exploder. In addition to Song Exploder, Hrishikesh Hirway has cohosted well-known podcasts like Home Cooking and Wing Weekly. On top of his podcast career, he has also composed original scores for the series “Everything Sucks!”, the film “Save the Date”, and many more. Alongside Hrishikesh Hirway is the singer, songwriter, and natural history enthusiast Jenny Owen Youngs, who has released music that can be heard in Bojack Horseman, Grey’s Anatomy, and Weeds. Jenny also hosts two podcasts, Buffering the Vampire Slayer (a Buffy the vampire rewatch podcast) and Veronica Mars Investigations (a Veronica Mars-oriented podcast.) October 26th, only at SV.

Formed in 2013, the self-proclaimed “heavy psych’ band King Buffalo comes to Sleeping Village for two nights. The trio, consisting of vocalist/guitarist Sean McVay, bassist Dan Reynolds, and drummer Scott Donaldson, perform their fifth full-length album, Regenerator, among other hits, on November 17th and 18th. Touring with bands such as Clutch and Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats in the past, King Buffalo mark their own sonic presence with their nine-and-a-half minute leadoff title track and their most powerful vocals yet. Joined by psych metal band Howling Giant on Thursday night and the slow-burning rock trio LUME on Friday night.

Georgia and Taylor, better known as JOCKSTRAP, capture the chaos, joy, and pain of romance in 2022, with their debut LP I Love You Jennifer B. Formed in 2017 after meeting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the duo has released a clutch of singles, EPs, and mixtapes over the last five years. Rolling Stone says, “Jockstrap has honed an adventurous, irreverent approach to music that doesn’t sacrifice songcraft or feeling.” Opening for the duo is the faze-toned guitar-playing independent newcomer Ernest Rareberrg.

w/ Babehaven, Mal
Capturing an effortless blend of electronic, ambient, folk, and rock, Helen Ballentine, known as Skullcrusher, comes to Sleeping Village to perform her first full-length album Quiet the Room. The 14-track record draws inspiration from Helen’s childhood home in Mount Vernon, New York. With struggles to connect with the world and let people in, when describing the album she says, “We wanted every song to have that little twinkle, but also a sense of crumbling.” Joined by Skullcrusher is the heart-on-sleeve songwriter Babehaven and Los Angeles-based visual artist/musician Mal.
